Project: Photoshop Lightroom
A New Standard in Photographic Education
Adobe has launched a new educational initiative that will bring world-class photographer Colin Finlay and Photoshop Lightroom beta digital workflow technology to photographic educators and students around the country. "Project: Photoshop Lightroom" was created to bring the photographic education community closer to each other locally, by opening up the lines of communication and enabling students and faculty from around the country to share ideas and interact with one another in a positive way.
The new photographic education program has begun at 25 colleges and universities in the U.S. and is comprised of two distinct components – lecture and workshop. World-renowned photojournalist and advertising photographer Finlay will provide students with a presentation of his work from Rwanda, Sudan, Cuba and other parts of the world. Mr. Finlay will also discuss how he was able to seamlessly and successfully make the transition from photojournalism to advertising photographer whose clients include Eastman Kodak, Ocean Pacific, Samsung and the U.S. Army.
In addition, a small group of students and lecture attendees will be selected by each school to participate in an actual "assignment workshop" with Finlay. Images from the assignment will be downloaded into Adobe Lightroom beta software where the students will create a final portfolio. Portfolios from each school will be uploaded to the site designated for students and teachers to share their work and communicate with each other via blogs and message boards.
"Project: Photoshop Lightroom reaffirms Adobe's commitment to photography and photographic education," says Jennifer Stern, senior product marketing manager at Adobe Systems. "By creating an environment where students and educators can freely share their thoughts, ideas and tips with each other, we are bridging the gap between institutional cultures and developing an online community that encourages communication through photography and open dialogue."
"Everyone needs to be inspired by someone or something," Stern continued. "Through his photographs and personal stories, Colin Finlay has the amazing ability to inspire his audience in ways that are uplifting and enlightening."
"It comes down to story telling," said Finlay, internationally acclaimed photographer who will lecture and conduct workshops at the 25 selected universities on behalf of Adobe. "It's about the students sharing what's unique about their communities with the rest of the world through their photography. Adobe Photoshop Lightroom will be the conduit, the pipeline for their passion. Their shared collective experience, as they tell the story of America today, to one another and to us."
"This is such a great opportunity for the students and faculty here at F.I.T.," says Curtis Willocks, photography instructor at Fashion Institute of Technology. "Working with Adobe on a unique project such as Lightroom is a classic example of how students can benefit from Corporate America's involvement in the education of our youth. Colin Finlay has spoken to smaller groups at F.I.T. and I have never seen the students so inspired by a photographer like they were with Colin. We are truly looking forward to the experience."
The Project: Photoshop Lightroom university tour began after Labor Day and be completed by December. Students, teachers and the general photographic community are encouraged to participate on the Website and see the new talent that resides at our colleges and universities nationwide – and eventually worldwide.
